Buying medical equipment for Tanzania: the honest answer

Every order placed here is picked in Nairobi, cleared for export, and carried across one of three land border crossings, or flown in for Zanzibar, rather than shipped from a local Tanzania branch.

That single-office model is also why documentation matters more on this side of the border than it does for a Kenyan city order: every consignment travels with manufacturer certificates, CE marks and the product data sheets a facility needs for TMDA registration and import clearance, prepared before dispatch rather than requested afterward.

Delivery by city

Each destination below sits closer to one border crossing than another, which is the main reason delivery times vary across a country this size rather than any difference in stock or certification.

Arusha and Moshi are the fastest at two to three days, being closest to the Namanga and Taveta-Holili crossings respectively. Dar es Salaam runs three to four days via Namanga and Arusha. Dodoma and Mwanza run four to five days, the furthest points by road. Zanzibar is two to three days by air or four to five by road and ferry.

Bulk carton orders of consumables are usually the most cost-effective way to use road freight across any of the three crossings.

Three border routes, one Nairobi warehouse

Namanga is the crossing for northern and central Tanzania, reaching Arusha directly and Dodoma by continuing south. Taveta-Holili is the shorter route specifically for Moshi and the Kilimanjaro Region, cutting out the Namanga detour. Isebania serves western Tanzania, the route Mwanza orders travel.

Zanzibar is the exception to all three: being an island, it is reached by air freight from Nairobi for speed, or by road to Dar es Salaam followed by the Dar-Zanzibar ferry for larger, less time-sensitive shipments.
